Alan Niemi

Dean of Students/ Vice President

Allan Niemi was the Dean of Students and later Vice President of the university during the protest era. In December of 1969, the Black Student Union held a sit-in in his office to protest general discrimination on campus as well as the suspension of a student for having a girl in his dorm room that they felt was racially based. Niemi claimed to have been held in his office against his will and testified in court to that effect. The case was eventually declared a mistrial.
